I grew up in Forsyth County, North Carolina. After graduating N. C. State / Computer Science, I moved to Maryland for a civil service job at the U. S. Naval Academy. Following many years at USNA, I moved to the National Library of Medicine.
Currently I'm at the National Institute of Standards & Technology, in the High Performance Computing and Visualization Group.
There are articles about about the work we do at NIST in Government Computer News and the NIST web site. Another article about NIST work is at: ScienceDaily.com. A cover image I worked on for the NIST Journal of Research. A science visualization video I worked on in Wired Magazine web site. Here is a 2013 article about our work simulating rheometers, devices for measuring concrete viscosity, with two images produced with my software. Here is another article about how we use super computers in our rheometer work. Also, a related report. A 30 minute Virtual Tour of NIST including a segment on our work is on-line at Discovery Education (a part of the Discovery Channel). On this NIST web page is a nine and a half minute video of a short presentation I did at SIGGRAPH 2015.
Current and past interests outside of work include Glen Echo Park, Friday Night Dance, Contra Dance and Spanish Ballroom Spirit. I occasionally post videos on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/stevensatterfield.
